Mizoram beat J&K 3-0


63rd Santosh Trophy
Srinagar, May 28: After playing a goalless first half, Mizoram pulled up their socks as they defeated Jammu and Kashmir 3-0 in their III match in the 63rd Santosh Trophy at the Tiruchirappalli, Chennai on Thursday. Both the teams tried hard to find the back of the net in the first half but failed, as they didn’t get their acts together. After a goalless first half the Mizoram team got their acts together and in the 51st minute took the lead as Lalamunpuia found the back of the net as he was left unmarked. But before that J&K captain Imran was shown red card by the referee and the team was playing with only 10 players. The 1-0 lead and absence of Imran gave Mizoram outfit the much-needed confidence and they started dominating the proceedings. The J&K team’s chances dented in 54th minute when Shahnawaz was also shown red card and J&K team had to play with just nine players. In 76th minute Jeje Laleekhlua got the ball past JK custodian to give Mizoram 2-0 lead. Trailing 2-0, and with just nine players on field JK players started playing an aggressive game. But they relied more in tackles rather than trying to have possession of the ball. The final nail in the coffin came in the 88th minute as H Lalrochama added his name in the scoring sheet to help Mizoram score a 3-0 victory and pocket three points.J&K team’s find of the tournament, Taufeeq Ahmad wasn’t able to play in this match as he was shown red card in previous match. Mansoor Ahmad was also shown red card in the previous match.With this loss, J&K team got out of the Santosh Trophy event. They drew first match with Madhya Pradesh 1-1 while won second match against Pondicherry 1-0.
