Greater Kashmir knockout football tournament from June 4


Srinagar, May 25: In its bid to promote football in Kashmir, Greater Kashmir is organizing Greater Kashmir knockout football tournament, which will kick-start simultaneously at different venues in Valley from June 4.To finalize the dates and all the arrangements for the mega tournament, the Greater Kashmir management and J&K Football Association office bearers led by its President Zamir Ahmad Thakur and secretary S A Hameed held a meeting at GK office here on Monday.It was decided that the Greater Kashmir knock-out football tournament will commence from June 4 at different venues. The main venue of the tournament in which about 24 teams of Srinagar and 10 teams of other districts will be participating would be the Polo Ground. The final would be played at Bakshi Stadium.After the state level tournament, Greater Kashmir is organizing All India Greater Kashmir football tournament.An organizing committee has been formed which will ensure smooth conduct and facilities for the participating teams.The Editor-in-Chief of Greater Kashmir, Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo will be the Patron-in-Chief while President, Greater Kashmir Communications Pvt Ltd, Abdul Rashid Makhdoomi will be the Patron. Peer Siraj-ud-Din has been appointed as chairman organizing committee while Professor B A Shah will be the organizing secretary. Fayaz Ahmad Sofi has been appointed assistant organizing secretary.Apart from the main body, nine members were also appointed which include, M Siddique, Majid Hyderi, Zulfikar Majid, Aijaz Mir, Tariq Ali Mir, Habib Naqash, Aman Farooq, Mubashir Khan and Imtiyaz Ahmad.A mega tournament, top teams will be fighting it out in the field. JK Bank, JK Police, SRTC, JK Forest, Iqbal Sports, Maharaja Sports will be participating with other teams of Srinagar and other districts.Speaking on the occasion, JKFA President, Zamir Thakur said, “This collaboration between Greater Kashmir and JKFA will be a milestone in the development and promotion of football in the valley. We hail Greater Kashmir for taking this initiative.”
