Trek With A Difference

Darasgah’s endeavor for children

Srinagar, May 25: A school imparting Quranic teaching to children on Sunday took time off by organizing a day-long trek for its students.Organised by the Darasgah Taleem-ul-Quran Hathi Khan, about 55 students took part as they tread on hilly routes on Zaberwan. They started from the Nishat Garden and were divided into four groups each led by an expert trekker, who knew the trek route. It took them about three hours to scale the top of the ridge. In the trekking route, bushes, rocks, steep slopes to slippery downhill tracks were successfully scaled by young trekkers. The groups were accompanied by the expert trekking guides of J&K Orienteering Association. Before start of the trekking, the guides gave tips to trekkers on dos and don’ts. The trekkers were instructed not to throw polythene and other non-biodegradable waste products en-route.About the event, Riyaz Ahmad, who coordinated the trekking, said, “The trekkers were in the age-group of seven to 50 years. Though up-hill trek was tough which demanded stamina and endurance, the downhill trek was more dangerous. It involved degree of risk as the trek was slippery and there were very little things en-route to support a trekker.” Despite all the adventure, the participants reached safely to the destination, he added. The event was part of Darasgah’s extra curricular activities. “It was for the first time that we organized trekking and we hope to organize more such events in the future” said Darasgah head, Muhammad Ashraf.
